Drive to Axos village:
I am a client of Crete car hire athenscars and had the chance to hire one fo their 4wd vehicles this year. Iam satisfied the vehicle Suzuki sx4 drove perfectly on the mountainous roads of the old road driving to Psiloritis mountain. My destination was village Axos, the ancient city of minoan civilization and its interesting surroundings.
I am fond of photo shooting and took hundreds of photos around the area of Axos. the most interesting was the Axos ruins and the old palace ruins, the church in the village centre as well the old school and the mountainous view!
Axos is the oldest village of the area, is surrounded from many small villages of great architechture and influence from the Venetian times!
For me is important i hired the correct hire car for this specific direction, the consumption of fuel was low and the car consumed just 6liters of diesel to reach the top of the mountain and return back to my accomodation.

Fresh fish is sold in very low rates, as many Sitian people do the fisherman job for living.. A lunch over the fantastic local family taverns of Moni Toplou. just 20minutes far from Sitia is sonething you should try.
Explore Crete with a rental car and find the Eastern part of the island, Vai palm beach. A valley of thousands phoinix trees ending in a sea canal with white sand and trees in the seaside. The memories of this place are fantastic.. These beautiful places are very carefully cleaned and are seriously under protection.
Next day take the chance to follow the road to Xerokampos and Zakros. Take your time to visit the archaeological place of Minoans, in kato Zakros. The ruins of Minoans show the importance of this place in ancient times. The whole area is having a freat tradition in vegetables and olive oil production. People make their living very hard working in the fields winter summer. The next stop is Makri Gialos, the place every visitor stops for a day or two of his visit in the East. This place is well developed with many apartments and hotels. This is a 3day tour, many people do 5days tour and take time to enjoy each part of the island sepertely.
